A familiar meal, a contemporary setting

SA Dosa Café brings South Indian food culture into an everyday dining setting in Pune. The brief centres on a space that welcomes families, friends and people stopping by for a meal, with seating, movement and service considered together.

The design gives that practical brief a recognisable character through colour and artwork. Cream walls and pale tabletops provide a quiet background, while green wall panelling and warm-toned chairs bring depth to the dining areas. The result is a setting where cultural references sit comfortably within a contemporary café.

Art as part of the room

The walls feature colourful paintings of dance, music and landscape. These are distinct points of interest above the seating, rather than a pattern repeated across every surface. One close view reveals the strong blue and orange tones of a dancer painting.

The artwork gives each view through the café a different emphasis. Against the restrained wall colours, its figures and gestures remain easy to notice from the tables.

Light, tables and everyday movement

Pale square tables and curved-back chairs establish a simple dining rhythm. In the window-side seating area, daylight reaches the tables through tall glazed openings. Woven pendant shades add another texture overhead and a warmer scale of light closer to the seating.

The planning intent is straightforward: comfortable places to sit alongside clear routes for guests and service. That aim guides the relationship between furniture, openings and the counter, without asking decorative details to carry the whole experience.

An identity that begins at the entrance

The entrance image shows the café name above the doorway, with a stepped approach and festive floral decoration. Inside, artwork and green wall tones continue the sense of welcome in a more everyday form.

Across these spaces, the project balances a visible identity with the familiar needs of a casual restaurant: arriving, finding a table, sharing food and staying for conversation.
